Downtown Santa Barbara

More than a dozen craftsmen contributed to the addition of a new bedroom, a second floor master suite and a new courtyard of fountains and stonework to this beautiful single-family residence in an historic district near the Santa Barbara Mission.  The challenge was to keep the original first-floor plaster ceilings intact while adding a second floor.

LFH adhered to the strict requirements put in place by the Historic Landmarks Commission and oversaw all work from demolition, site preparation and structural concrete, through installation of cabinets, fixtures, finishes - and the final touches to hardscaping and landscaping.

The result is a masterpiece of modern open-floor design that ties masterfully to the existing house, and won designer Mark Shields the George Washington Smith Award for Exemplary Design and Architecture.
